Jim Sharp - Shake Ya Azz / Pump It Up

Written by  | 18 January 2016

Jim Sharp has got these party joints down to a fine art by now, with a number of dope 45's behind him. This latest one follows very closely on the heels on his previous efforts with fellow label mate Naughty NMX, and is very much in the same style as "Hypnotize Herb". These joints sit firmly in the crate of dancefloor heaters.

What we get on this latest one is "Shake Ya Azz", which blends a Mystikal acapella with James Brown's classic "Get On Up". It's fast, fun, and works exactly as expected. However, it's the B Side that gets my interest perked. Perhaps I'm a sucker for the Scenario beat, knowing how hard it is to find on 45. "Pump It Up", uses that exact sample from Kool & The Gang, and blends it with an acapella from Joe Budden. Well, actually the original version of that Budden joint also uses those same horns and Jim Sharp has turned it up a notch on this remix, edging up the BPM ever so slightly and making the backing track more reliant on the original "Soul Vibrations" sample.

Overall, another nicely rounded package. It's not going to blow minds, but I don't think it's trying to either. This release knows its lane: Just straight up fun party shit for the dancefloor, and there isn't anything wrong with that.

Grab it at Juno here.
