Sifu Hotman - Matches / Embrace The Sun

Here's a hot new release out of Minnesota from a trio comprised of producer DJ Rube, and emcees Guante and Dem Atlas. The A side "Matches" got some attention when it previously featured on Lauren Laverne's show on BBC Radio 6 Music, and heads have been eagerly awaiting an official release since - And here it is!

The sound is a real throw back to the nineties, and in the dopest way possible. The double-bass loop anchored by some snappy drums is something reminiscent to the sound of Del's album "No Need For Alarm" (in my opinion), and I'm not mad at that at all.

The B side turns things up a notch with the funky uptempo hitter "Embrace The Sun", which uses the drums from Rhythm Connections "Sky's The Limit", but cleverly avoids any other detectable elements from that track. The baseline is funky and keeps things moving nicely, while the track features guest vocals from Tall Pall.

This one is a real great release. Pick it up through Bandcamp here.
