Marc Hype & Jim Sharp - Weapons Of Choice Vol 1

Hot off the press comes news of yet another release from the veteran label Dusty Donuts, who have been pushing out quality releases at a steady pace this year. With this release "Weapons Of Choice Vol 1" the guys take a slightly different approach and give us a very handy scratch tool, which makes perfect sense considering how many Hip Hop DJs are now using 45's as their weapon of choice (Pun intentional).

Side A is a collection of hand picked scratchy sounds and vocal snippets from Marc Hype. There's a bunch of old trusted favourites arranged for skipless scratches, plus the inclusion of many new braggadocio vocal samples that haven't really been used on battle records before.

The flip side sees a funky little stripped down production from Jim Sharp, created as a sound bed for your scratching needs. It's made up of samples from some old favourites: "Take me to the Mardi Gras", "Assembly Line", "Heaven And Hell Is On Earth" before transitioning into the Sly Stone loop as sampled in "Mama Said Knock You Out". The side finishes with a handy scratch tone in the run out groove for those long transformer styled scratchers.

Overall, It's another quality release. It's certainly not the first scratch tool pressed on 45 (And there have been in recent years) but it's produced with the attention to detail and level of quality that we have come to expect from the Marc Hype and Jim Sharp. Start practicing your scratches - The release should be hitting the stores very soon.
